1955	Partner in the city law firm of Gillott, Moir & Ahern (now Minter Ellison).
1957	Signed the Bar Roll; read with Sydney Frost (later the Honourable Sir Sydney Frost, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea).
1970	Ran (unsuccessfully) as Labor candidate for the federal seat of Chisolm.
1973	Took silk; admitted to practise in all Australian States and Territories and in Ireland.
1977	Chairman, Victorian Bar Council.
1979	President of the Australian Bar Association .
1980	Appointed by the Fraser Liberal Government to head up the Royal Commission into the Activities of the Federated Ship Painters and Dockers Union.
1984	Royal Commission concluded by the Hawke Labor Government.
2003	Chairman of Transparency International Australia.
2009	Died in Melbourne.
